Tour #27: Department 56 Home Tours - 1

Thursday, June 25, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM Tour Price: $30

Gary & Debbie Powers – this is a house full of houses! Gary and Debbie are celebrating Christmas in June in their beautiful home in Ponte Vedra Beach. They have their trees decorated, their gingerbread baked, and some nice Christmas cheer to warm your blood. Come see their vignettes featuring D56 buildings which include North Pole, Dickens, and New England Villages that surround the top of their great room. Gary will be presenting a seminar at the Hyatt on how he customizes D56 buildings to create a winter wonderland of white, gold, and silver. Coffee & Snacks provided.

Larry Shughart – a charter member of the North Florida Village Collectors Club, Larry’s first love is American Flyer toy trains and the buildings that go with them. He was only going to get one, maybe two, Department 56 buildings for his train layout, but that plan quickly faded. Larry’s 35’ x 65’ train layout features over 500 buildings, of which less than 30 of them are Department 56, mostly from Christmas in the City Village and New England Village. You will enjoy seeing the history of Christmas villages and vintage houses from dozens of different manufactures represented over the last 100 years.

Larry will also have a special Christmas village display of Glitter houses, with vintage trains and bottle brush trees to complete the old-fashioned style putz1.

1A Christmas village (or putz) is a decorative, miniature-scale village often set up during the Christmas season. These villages are rooted in the elaborate Christmas traditions of the Moravian church, a Protestant denomination. Mass-produced cardboard Christmas villages became popular in the United States during the early and mid-20th century, while porcelain versions became popular in the later part of the century.
